2020/21 Summary
- The percentage of students applying for HE remains high at 92% of the year group.
- 57% of students have taken up a place at a Russell Group university. This figure is the highest on record and a significant increase on the previous year (42% 2020).
- The success rate for students obtaining a place to study Medicine/Dentistry/Veterinary Science remains high
- Seven (out of 8) students successfully obtained a place to study medicine (88%).
- Three (out of 3) students applying for Dentistry obtained a place – including one in Bulgaria (100%).
- One (out of 1) student successfully applied for Veterinary Science (100%)
- Oxbridge - four students have taken up a place, two at Cambridge and two at Oxford. 11 students applied for Oxbridge. Eight were interviewed. Four students were offered a place subject to grades.
- 10 (14 in the previous year) students obtained places through Clearing. Reasons included - not meeting the entry requirements, change of mind on their chosen course or a student has made a late application to UCAS.
- Roughly 4% are not placed each year; this is dependent on a number of factors – results, change of mind (course & university)
- Over the last three years, the universities in the north of England and closer to home are still the most popular with our students: Liverpool, Bradford, Durham, York, Sheffield and Newcastle. However, there have been some notable increases in students attending locations outside the north of England e.g. the second most popular destination this year was the University of Nottingham with 10 students starting in September.
- A higher percentage of students apply for the following subject/courses English, Psychology, Medicine, Mathematics and Business (Economics, Business Management, Accountancy, Marketing, Law)
